Privacy Policy

1. App Overview

Astronomy Journel is a personal night sky observation journal. The app lets users create an account, log astronomy observations, save object names, locations, sky conditions, visibility ratings, notes, and optional photos, sync observations across devices, and export observation data as CSV.

2. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use the app, Astronomy Journel may collect:

• Account information, such as name, email address, Firebase user ID, and account creation date.
• Observation information, such as date/time, manually entered location, object type, object name, sky condition, visibility rating, and notes.
• Photos that you choose to upload or capture for an observation.
• Local file paths for images stored temporarily on your device before sync.
• Sync and technical data needed to keep your observations available offline and online.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Create and manage your account.
• Save, display, edit, sync, and delete your observations.
• Upload and display photos attached to your observations.
• Provide offline access and sync pending changes when your connection returns.
• Export your observation journal when you choose to use CSV export.
• Maintain app security, reliability, and basic functionality.

4. Third-Party Services

Astronomy Journel uses third-party service providers to operate the app:

• Firebase Authentication, used for email/password account sign-up and sign-in.
• Cloud Firestore, used to store account profile data and observation records.
• Supabase Storage, used to store observation photos that you choose to upload.

These providers process data to deliver app functionality. Their handling of data is also governed by their own privacy and security practices.

5. Local Storage

The app stores some data locally on your device so that observations can be viewed and edited offline. Local data may include cached account details, observations, sync status, and local image references. You can remove local app data by deleting the app from your device or clearing app storage in your device settings.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with advertisers. Data is transferred to Firebase and Supabase only as needed to provide account, sync, storage, and app functionality.

7. Photos and Camera/Gallery Access

The app may ask you to select photos from your device or capture a photo when adding an observation. Photos are only used when you choose to attach them to an observation. Attached photos may be uploaded to Supabase Storage so they can be synced and displayed in the app.

8. Data Retention

We retain account and observation data while your account remains active or as needed to provide the app. If you delete observations inside the app, the app attempts to remove the related remote observation data and related uploaded observation photos where applicable.

9. Account and Data Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at hassan12rehan@gmail.com. Please include the email address used for your Astronomy Journel account.

After verifying the request, we will delete or anonymize account data and associated observation data unless retention is required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or another legitimate reason.

10. Security

We use Firebase and Supabase services that transmit data over secure network connections. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children

Astronomy Journel is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us so we can review and delete the information where required.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
